Adventure races include mountain/gravel biking, rowing, orienteering and other disciplines to find control points along a course through forests, waterways, trails and rural roads. There is a time limit, but winners are determined first by finding the most checkpoints. The course is not revealed until immediately before the race. Navigation is by map and compass - no GPS devices allowed! Racers supply their own mountain bike and personal gear, but maps, watercraft, and paddles are supplied and included in the race fee. Click here for a deeper breakdown of the sport. If you have never adventure raced before but feel you're strong in the disciplines, the 8 hour event may be for you! For a truly introductory experience, try the 6 hour Berryman-Lite.The Berryman Adventure 20 hour and 8 hour courses earn USARA points, and are challenging courses designed for experienced racers.
The 6 hour Berryman-Lite is designed with novice adventure racers in mind. This is a low risk, fun option for beginners or anyone who wants a gentle introduction to the sport.
