As with many other things, our event is changing this year. We'll be doing a virtual event and would love to have you join us. We've become an annual tradition for many individuals and families/friends and we don't want you to be left out this year. We will be marking the course for you and will leave it marked for the full day on Thanksgiving. Come out whenever you'd like, enjoy the day, get your steps and sweat on and enjoy the outdoors. If Thanksgiving day isn't convenient for you, we've set up a window from November 13th, to December 6th in which you could complete your 5k. (You could even complete multiple 5k's in that window, your secret is safe with us) ;-)
Why should you sign up for our VIRTUAL event? Well, we aren't charging you for the race this year. We know that some families are stretched with employment changes, we know that it's been a different 8 months, and we also know, that in hosting a virtual event, we aren't able to do much of the extras we usually try to put on for you, so we don't feel right in charging a fee for that. We are however, still raising money for our community ski team. We are a non-profit (501c3) and run on limited funding from the school district as budgets become tighter and tighter. We strive to provide ski equipment for any skier that is unable to purchase it for themselves and we supplement costs for training trips and competitions for those that need it. We also use the fundraiser to purchase uniforms and help outfit the team. (If you are an Elk River Nordic Alumni from years back, you'll be proud to know that the black and grey spacesuits and the candy-cane suits have finally been retired, it only took 35 years.) So while we aren't charging for the race, we are asking for donations. If you are financially able, consider a $10 donation for an individual or maybe $40 or $50 for a family, or whatever you are comfortable with, whether that is more, or less. And if you aren't in a place to do that, then just enjoy your race day - for free - and think of it as our way of giving back to you for helping support us over the years. This is our 11th year! We grew from a small friends/family event of just the team that first year, to almost 400 runners the last few years. So, thank you for joining us, thank you for supporting us, and thank you for continuing to spend your Thanksgiving day with us - We look forward to being back in FULL next year!
Since registration is free this year, we are not offering shirts WITH your registration, but you can order them separately if you'd like. If you would like to order a T-shirt, they will run $10 each. We placed the order for shirts on November 11th and only have a limited number of shirts/sizes left available. Our shirts are a gender-fitted-wicking-race t-shirt in your size.
Packet pick up will be race morning starting at 7:00am and will be staffed until 10:00am. We are looking into alternatives to race morning pick-up if you order shirts. If you didn't order a shirt, you can just complete your event whenever it is convenient for you, no need to come to packet-pick-up! Race-day "registration" (donations) will be open for a limited time (cash or check only) at the park. The course will be marked for the full day with mile markers and laps showing the way and we'll have a photo backdrop out for that day that you can use to commemorate the day for you, or you with your sidekick pup, or you with your family. We will need to have social distancing practices followed at packet pick-up and at the park that day if you choose to run your event on-site. Please understand that there will not be an official "start", you can start at anytime and anywhere!
Come out and enjoy some beautiful trails at Otsego Park (you may even see some Wild Turkeys in the process!) or explore your own area for your 5k. Our run/walk is traditionally held at Otsego Regional Park in Otsego, MN. The course is flat to slightly rolling and loops around next to the river and back through some wooded sections. It is a paved course and strollers are welcome, we just ask that you allow runners to pass and are careful maneuvering around other runners. Since this is a VIRTUAL race though, you can complete it ANYWHERE that works for you. We encourage you to do it on Thanksgiving day to keep with the tradition but we've set up a couple week window of time that you can complete it in.
If you prefer to send your donations directly to the team, they can be sent to:
Elk River Endurance - Nordic Team, 900 School St., Elk River, MN 55330
If you are picking up a shirt or coming in the morning on Thanksgiving, we'd also encourage you to bring non-perishable food items or winter clothing donations (gloves, mittens, hats, jackets) for kids or adults and we'll be filling a truck to donate to CAER! (Our local food shelf)
For the love of all that is good and moisture wicking...
ALWAYS visit the race's website for the most complete and accurate race information.
