    In-person registration is allowed and accepted on Friday, November 3 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturda, November 4 up until 8:30 a.m.

    Cantigny (pronounced "Can - Tee - Knee")

    Cantigny is the former home of Colonel Robert R. McCormick, longtime editor, and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. The 500-acre estate features gardens, the Robert R. McCormick Museum, the First Division Museum, and a 27-hole championship public golf course. 5K participants and their families are invited to explore and enjoy Cantigny.

    Cantigny 5K Run/Walk 2023

    The Cantigny 5K Run/Walk is a benefit for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.

    The course will start from the Visitors Center parking lot and will wind past the gardens, through the grounds, and across the rolling hills of the Cantigny Golf Course, finishing in the South Parking Lot.

    After the awards ceremony, enjoy free access to the grounds and museums for the rest of the afternoon.

    Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans

    All proceeds from the Cantigny 5K Run/Walk will benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton, IL. The shelter is a not-for-profit transitional living facility that provides assistance to U.S. veterans of any era, the opportunity to return to useful and productive lives by providing them with the skills for independent living. 

    Their mission: “To provide veterans and their families with housing and supportive services that lead to self-sufficiency.”

    The 5K Course

    The 5K course is USATF (# IL17036WR) certified entirely on Cantigny grounds and a blacktop surface. The race starts at the Visitors Center and proceeds out onto the rolling hills of the Cantigny Golf Course and back to the South Parking Lot. Participants will run past the First Division Museum, The Robert R. McCormick Museum, and finishes by running through Cantigny Gardens. The portion on the golf course will be run on the cart paths. Digital clocks or timers will be located at mile markers. Water stations will be set up at the halfway mark and at the start/finish line. 

    Registration Fees

    5K Runners or Walkers (chip-timed race)
    $22.00 Until June 30 for any runner or walker of any age who will participate in the 5K course.
    $25.00 July 1 thru September 30 for any runner or walker of any age who will participate in the 5K course.
    $30.00 October 1 thru October 31 at midnight for any runner or walker of any age who will participate in the 5K course.
    $30.00 November 1 thru November 4 on-site for any runner or walker of any age that will be partaking in the 5K course.

    6 - 10-Year-Old Run 1-Mile Run (non-chipped)
    $5.00 for any runner or walker ages 6 - 10 who will participate in the 1-Mile course.

    0 - 5-Year-Old  Run 1/4-Mile Run (non-chipped)
    $5.00 for any runner or walker ages 0-5 who will participate in the 1/4-Mile course.

    Early Packet Pick-Up

    Registration packets may be picked up at the Cantigny Visitors Center, on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 11 am until 7 pm.
    Your disposable timing chip will be included with your packet and attached to the back of your bib number.
    The parking fee will be waived for registered participants picking up their packets. 

    Award Ceremony

    At approximately 10 am, outside in the South Lot, near the finish line, the awards and prizes will be presented to the top three male and female overall finishers. Following the ceremony, awards for the top three male and female finishers in each five-year age group will be available for pick-up at the awards table. The top three male and female overall finishers will not be eligible in the five-year age groups.

    The age groups are as follows: 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75+.

    The top three male and female overall finishers for the 1-Mile and 1/4-Mile runs will also receive an award immediately following the end of each race.

    Awards will be given only to registered runners with a valid chip. The official race results provided by Mattoon Multisport will be used for overall and age group rankings.

    6 - 10-Year-Old Run and 0 - 5-Year-Old  Run

    The 6 - 10-Year-Old Run is for children ages 6 to 10 and the 0 - 5-Year-Old  Run is for children ages 0 to 5. Races will start following the 5K Run/Walk award ceremony. 6 - 10-Year-Old Runs 1-mile in length and the 0 - 5-Year-Old  Run is approximately ¼-mile. Neither child's run will be chip timed.

    6 - 10-Year-Old Run and 0 - 5-Year-Old  Run Awards

    The top three male and female overall finishers for the 1-mile and 1/4-mile Run will be awarded a youth plaque with their respective finishing place. Awards will be given only to registered runners with a valid registration numbered bib. All youth and tot runners will also receive a finishing medal.

    Parking & Facilities

    Ample free parking for race participants and volunteers is available close to the Visitors Center and the finish line, so participants can leave gear in their car.

    Refreshments

    After the race, stay for refreshments and award presentations in the South Parking Lot.  Then enjoy the many features of Cantigny Park.

    Bicycles, Strollers, Etc.

    Bicycles, in-line skates, roller skates, scooters, other wheeled vehicles (except wheelchairs), and dogs are not allowed on the course, will not be allowed through the finish chutes, and will not be included in the results. Runners with baby strollers may not run competitively and must start after and remain behind runners for the entire race.
