Florence, WI
Webmaster Mary ran the inaugural Keyes Peak Trail Marathon.
The Keyes Peak Trail Marathon starts and ends at the Keyes Peak ski lodge, about 4 miles southwest of Florence, WI.
Florence is about 10 miles west of Iron Mountain, MI. The course uses ATV trails and gravel service roads.

At mile 18 the course features a river crossing. This was not an ankle deep stream to
skip across in about 10 steps. This was a full force chest deep river with a strong current.
Local resident, Dwayne Drewa served as runner-goalie to catch the runners that attempted to
swim across the shorter but deep route, and assisted those of us that opted for the longer, yet
shallower route.
The river crossing was a BLAST. The cool water was refreshing. A bag drop was available
just after the crossing for those who wanted dry shoes and/or clothes.
This unique feature makes this marathon one I would definitely recommend.
